We have returned from our great adventures in Bilbao, San Sebastian, Toulouse and Carcassone. To be honest, we got back last week but work and planning for Eoghan’s 26th birthday party kind of swallowed us whole.
Hols were fab; so, so much to pack in that I think it’ll be broken down into a series of sporadic posts over the next few weeks. Lots and lots of pics were taken – I’m gradually uploading them onto Flickr. Lots and lots of wine was drunk – I’m gradually trying to detox it all out of my system (the party didn’t help).
San Sebastian is such a beautiful city that it was almost too perfect to photograph; everything looked like a postcard, it was just so gorgeous.

Lots more on the Guggeinheim (we wondered around, completely oblivious to the fact that the big €487,000 embezzement story was breaking), our fancy schmancy Michelin-starred dinners, Pintxo crawling, wine-tasting and, of course, an obligatory taxi story. No holiday is complete without one of those.
Just realised that the pics I posted make San Sebastian look like a fabulously sun-drenched city; unfortunately, they were all taken on the same day. For the benefit of those possibly considering visiting, be warned that even though it is hot and sunny in the summer, it is very rainy in April, I think their average rainfall for the month is three times that of Dublin, with plenty of those overcast grey-ish white skies we get; that’s not to say it still wasn’t pretty:
