So we ran away from Dublin this weekend and boarded a plane to Cork (woo woo, a plane, I know). We headed to Fota Island Resort, a swanky and fab hotel-spa-golf-place for a weekend of indulgent doing feck-all.
Friday night’s feast at the hotel restaurant, The Cove, was amazingly yum; I think the chefs there are vying for a Michelin. We were having the taster menu so ate what we were given, all of it surprising and delicious; Eoghan will blog a review soon.
The Fota Frenzy cocktails – made up of whiskey, midori, crushed ice, mystery ingredient, and ginger ale – went down very nicely. Brekkie in bed was fab (Coco Pops, fruit, a fry, tea, OJ…), as was just lolling around the room reading Sara Gruen’s Water For Elephants, which was so lovely I started it yesterday and finished it about an hour ago. There was also a bit of tramping through the pretty woods (they looked weirdly autumnal for January, pics below) getting some fresh air into our dusty city lungs.
Eoghan tottled off for a massage while I got a Chocolate Wrap – it was pure madness but felt great: Basically you’re slathered in cool mousse-like chocolate stuff and wrapped in light plastic. The chocolate heats and bubbles, turning you into a giant Aero bar for about 20 minutes while you lie in a heated water bed. Mmmm…
